Catching up on the blog.
I have alot of updating to do. I started this blog a long time ago and like everything it was put on the back burner while I was learning to care for Brock. The Plastic surgeon that we chose to go with recommended the Lathem device. The lathem device is used to pull the premaxilla (the middle piece of gum and lip) into the mouth. It also we help create extra tissue for the closure. On Feb. 2nd the device was successfully implanted into the roof of Brocks mouth. He also had tubes placed in his ears at that time. The tubes were also a success and he has not had an ear infection since. The Lathem required weekly visits to the orthodontist. You could see the progress every week. Its just amazing and I thank God everyday that Brock was born in this day and age with such wonderful technology.
On April 12th The Lathem was removed and at that time Dr. Stal closed the hard palate. The surgery was a success. Dr. Stal also gave Brock a little "nose job". His nose looks great. His recovery was very rough this time. He could not have a bottle for 10 days. We had to feed him with a suringe. He also had to have arm restraints....which was really fun for both of us. His pain was manage with tylenol with codene for the first 4 days. After that he was a little "wacked" out from all the drugs and didn't sleep well for the few nights. We made it through great. I think it was harder on Joe and I than him. He is a trooper.
My Aunt Melanie flew in for both procedures. She was a great help with Chase. Brock loves her and would lay really still on her chest. Strange he wont do that with anyone else. Needless to say I hated to see her leave and I hope she will be willing to help us again.
